  • Professional Writing Rates

NEW CLIENT SPECIAL – $0.05 / word for first 5,000 words!

With my new-client rate you can test-drive Pete Russell Writing for a great rate and get excellent professional-quality copy at a discount. You can use those 5,000 words however you like – span it across multiple smaller jobs or have the first 5,000 words discounted on a large job.

Standard Rates are tiered for various business sizes, so any business can afford professional copywriting that’s fast, crisp and high-quality.

  • $0.10 / word for small / microcap businesses and nonprofits
  • $0.15 / word for medium size / small cap businesses
  • $0.20 / word for major corporation / medium and large cap businesses

  • Project Expenses

Expenses that I incur that are specific and necessary for completion of a project are to be reimbursed by the client.  It is my policy to obtain written approval from a client before incurring any billable expenses, and also to confirm that the client does not have in-house resources that can accommodate the need.  I do not bill clients for my ordinary business operating expenses – only for specific costs related to a project.

Expenses subject to reimbursement include:

  • Professional printing
  • Graphic design, technical expertise or other specialized services
  • Postage / package delivery / courier etc.
  • Professional Services (Notary Public etc.)
  • Travel expenses and accommodations (note: I do not typically charge for travel with San Francisco except for remote locations)
  • Other expenses on a case-by-case basis

Expenses will be itemized  totaling less than $50.00 will be added to the final invoice.  Expenses totaling over $50.00, particularly for a long-term project, will be submitted for reimbursement at my discretion.

Rates – I.T. Projects – Sales and Marketing – and Project Management – are Subject to Negotiation based on scope, content, research requirements, turnaround time, one-time vs. ongoing time-frame and other factors.  Rate structures may include hourly / daily / weekly compensation, piecework, lump sum, milestone-contingent, rate-per-word / rate-per-page, or other structures as benefit all parties.

Please contact me for a consultation.  I will submit a bid based upon the project parameters and roles.

Subject to availability, I can also assist you with skilled office duties and projects. Once project work has begun, rates are subject to re-negotiation if there are changes to project scope or detail.

  • Skilled Office Rates

  • $27.00 per Hour – Base Rate
  • $20.00 per Hour – Introductory Rate (First 2 Hours for New Clients)
  • $38.00 per Hour – RUSH RATE (Fast Turnaround) – Subject to Availability.  I reserve the right to negotiate a higher rate on a case-by-case basis, should circumstances warrant.

2-Hour Minimum – additional time to be billed in 15-minute increments

All time worked is monitored and itemized on your invoice.
Additional time/expense will not be undertaken without written approval of client.

 

  • Contracts, Invoicing and Payment

Simple projects may proceed with verbal agreement.

Complex and extended projects shall require agreement in writing.  I will provide a written contract proposal at no cost, upon good faith verbal agreement.  Should the original contract proposal require extensive modification per client specification, I reserve the right to charge a reasonable rate for contract revision efforts (pending verbal agreement of said fee.)

A retainer payment may be requested for new clients prior to beginning work.  The retainer amount is negotiable, typically 20-50% of estimated project cost (for short-term projects) or one week estimated cost (for extended projects.)  In the event that a project is aborted before retainer funds are “worked off,” prorated refund requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

For short-term projects (less than a week duration) I will submit a final invoice upon completion.

For extended projects (more than one week duration) I will submit weekly invoices, subject to the agreed-upon rate structure.

All payments are due upon receipt of invoice.

Payment is accepted via PayPal (preferred) or by check.
